If you or a loved one has suffered injuries, or is a victim of wrongful death as the result of a car accident, it is critical to speak to an experienced Davis car accident lawyer at once to determine your next steps. Where serious personal injuries or a wrongful death occurs, it may be possible to obtain compensation.
Car accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including:
- Drunk driving
- Distracted driving - such as driving while texting
- Negligent roadway design
- Defective automobile parts
- Driver error
Here, the reports indicate that the driver had been drinking and the accident occurred in an instant. In fact, although many factors may lead to car accidents, drunk driving remains the leading cause of car accidents in the United States. Statistics indicate that more than 40% of traffic fatalities are the result of drink and driving.
Victims injured by negligent drunk drivers face medical bills, emotional distress, physical pain, lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life. Where victims suffer severe of permanent injuries, families may experience significant economic loss and mental anguish. In the event of death, families may be torn apart.
According to news, the front passenger in Thursday's car crash was wearing a seatbelt but suffered blunt force trauma injuries and died at the scene. Another passenger was ejected from the car and died at the scene, while a third passenger was also ejected from the vehicle and later died at the hospital. A neighbor who lives near the scene commented, "It makes you realize how fast something like that can happen. [It] makes you want to tell your kids, grandchildren not to drink and drive. It's a really sad thing." None of the backseat passengers were wearing seatbelts.
