The death of Junior Seau has further highlighted the controversy surrounding football, concussions and the safety of players. As pointed out in a recent football and brain injury article, While Seau's death hasn't been conclusively linked to concussions, and we may never know the reasons for his suicide, it has created greater urgency about just how dangerous football is.

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) - concussions - can occur as the result of sudden blows to the head. They may occur in several different settings, but are commonly the result of car accidents or sports accidents. Symptoms of TBIs include headaches, dizziness, forgetfulness and confusion. Severe brain injuries are often more recognizable and include vomiting, seizures, dilated pupils and extreme fatigue. All brain injuries have the potential to result in long term difficulties such as mood swings, personality changes, loss of memory and confusion.

If you believe you may have suffered a TBI as the result of another's carelessness or recklessness, it's important to speak to an experienced California brain injury lawyer right away.

Repeated concussions, such as football players may experience have recently been linked with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, the degenerative brain disease that has recently been linked with the suicides of several former NFL players.

However, as a recent article points out despite the growing concerns about concussions and the dangers to players, it is unlikely that the game of football will change in any significant way.

As a result, many serious lawsuits have been filed against the NFL. These brain injury lawsuits allege that the league deliberately downplayed the medical risks associated with concussions.

Further, as pointed out in the article, it's important that high-school athletic conferences, scholastic sports associations, and the NCAA take a hard look at the aspects of the game that inflict the most damage and implement rule changes accordingly.
